Privacy Policy for Latewise
Effective date: 4 October 2026
App: Latewise (com.latewise.app)
Developer: WiseDev
Summary
Latewise is a late-night driving check-in that runs entirely on your phone. There are no accounts, no servers, no ads and no analytics. Latewise does not have the internet permission, so it cannot connect to the internet itself, and it sends nothing to the developer.
What Latewise keeps on your phone
Everything below is stored only in Latewise's private storage on your phone. It is deleted when you uninstall Latewise or clear its data.
- Your settings: whether check-ins are on, your late window, the Bluetooth address of the car you picked, and the voice volume.
- Your last 20 check-ins: when they happened, what started them, your yes or no answers, the result with its reason and, if you took it, your reaction-test time.
- Trip timing: when your recent drives started and stopped, so Latewise asks only once per trip.
- A technical diary of up to 1,000 recent events, used to make drive detection reliable: drive starts and stops, connections of your car's Bluetooth, the steps of each check-in, the audio output used (with its device name) and the words speech recognition heard. Other Bluetooth devices' addresses appear only as their last characters. The diary never leaves the app.
Permissions and why Latewise asks for them
- Microphone: to hear your spoken yes or no during a check-in. Latewise listens only while the check-in screen is open.
- Physical activity: to notice when you start and stop driving, using the activity recognition built into Google Play services on your phone.
- Nearby devices (Bluetooth): to list your paired devices so you can choose your car, and to notice when your phone connects to it.
- Notifications and full-screen notifications: to show the check-in, including over the lock screen.
- Display over other apps: to open the check-in when your phone is unlocked and in use.
- Ignore battery optimisations: so Android does not stop Latewise from noticing drives in the background.
- Run at startup and vibrate: to keep working after the phone restarts, and to vibrate with the alarm.
Speech, voice and drive detection
Latewise speaks its questions with your phone's text-to-speech engine and understands your answers with your phone's speech recognition service. On most phones both are provided by Google. Depending on your phone and its settings, the speech recognition service may process your spoken answer on the phone or online, under its provider's privacy policy (for Google: policies.google.com/privacy). Latewise only receives the recognised words, uses them to decide between yes and no, and keeps them on your phone as described above.
Drive detection comes from Google Play services on your phone, which tells Latewise when you start or stop riding in a vehicle, and from your car's Bluetooth connection. Latewise does not ask for or use your location.
Sharing and selling
Latewise does not share or sell any data. It has no way to send data off your phone.
Security
Latewise's data stays in its private app storage, which other apps cannot read, and it is not included in cloud backups.
Children
Latewise is meant for adult drivers and is not directed at children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be published at the same place with a new effective date, and shown in the app.
